  We're not talking about reinventing the wheel - we're talking about taking that database of information and making it available to citizens.

  city of edmonton has a gps database with several layers, including community leagues, neighborhoods, brz's firehalls, down to the locations of sewers and fire hydrants - why reinvent the wheel?

  Boundaries as in the roads bounding the neighbourhoods, and the coordinates of the raods

  I've put up all the Edmonton neighborhoods on Freebase here: http://www.freebase.com/view/base/edmonton/views/edmonton_neighborhoods

  No geocodes on it yet but could easily be stored there.

  Official boundaries could work well to allow people with GPS to look at neighbourhood-specific services. Maybe the community's swimming pool?
